Weekly Planner: The Ladies' Room Pop-up, Sunday Gravy, National Empanada Day

The Ladies’ Room at Revival Food Hall

Further cementing itself as the ultimate downtown ambassador of Chicago neighborhoods, Revival Food Hall is hosting a one-night bar pop-up for one of Logan Square’s coolest, most unique cocktail spots. On April 6, the Loop food hall will welcome The Ladies’ Room for a boozy takeover from 4:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., all part of a new ongoing program that’ll feature a different local bar on the first Friday of each month. For this edition, Fat Rice’s chef Abraham Conlon and beverage director Annie Beebe-Tron will bring their culinary-inspired cocktails downtown, transforming Revival’s bar into an oasis reminiscent of Chinese gambling halls that emerged around Macau in the 19th and 20th centuries. Cocktails to be poured into the Dangerous Summer (rhum ahricole, feni, rose cordial, grapefruit and lime) and the One Way Ticket to Bangkok (black raspberry-infused gin, Luxardo Maraschino, Mizu lemongrass shochu, lime and Thai herb bitters with Malaysian blue pea flowers).

Sunday Gravy at Nico Osteria

While the weather is still cool and fickle, take advantage of Nico Osteria’s limited-run comfort food special taking place on Sundays. Inspired by Italian-American Sunday gravy traditions, the dinner promo centers around family-style plates anchored by slow-cooked meats and pasta in red sauce. The menus include Caesar salad, meaty gravy and entree selections like braciole, meatballs, black pepper-garlic sauce and rigatoni alfredo. For dessert, gelato and sorbet flavors change weekly.

National Empanada Day at Artango Bar & Steakhouse

Any holiday hinged on meat- and cheese-filled pastries is a holiday worth celebrating. National Empanada Day takes place April 8, and to celebrate in style, Artango Bar & Steakhouse is featuring four flavors of the traditional Argentine snack for $2 each. Available for dinner from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., house-baked options include beef, caprese, corn and cheese, and a special flavor of the day. Each empanada is served with chimichurri sauce, and they pair mighty well with happy hour specials like mojitos and caipirinhas.

Brunch at Heritage Restaurant & Caviar Bar

There’s a new brunch on the block in Humboldt Park, as one of the city’s buzziest and most unique new restaurants adds Sunday service to its roster. One special aspect of brunch at Heritage Restaurant & Caviar Bar is how late it runs; served from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., it’s an all-day affair, so you can feel free to sleep in as late as you need. Duck confit biscuits and gravy, breakfast pierogi and Korean short ribs are a few items on deck.
