Forbidden Root’s Second Anniversary

Time flies when you’re having fun. Or, you know, drinking botanical beers. Forbidden Root is coming up on its second anniversary, and to celebrate, the innovative West Town botanical brewery is holding an adorably dubbed “Rootiversary” shindig on March 8. It all starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs through 10:00 p.m., with new beer releases, special menu items and other surprises in store. Tickets are $10, only available at the door, and they earn guests a collectible glass, three 5-oz. pours of draft beers and one private brewery tour. There will also be a raffle, a sparkling rosé toast and more.

Lamb Feast at avec

If you’re looking to really wow your friends and family, no better place to do so than at avec. That’s true in general, as the West Loop fixture is always a crowd-pleaser, but even more so lately, now that the Mediterranean restaurant and wine bar has implemented a group-friendly lamb feast. Inspired by regional Mediterranean dining traditions, the lamb roti is designed to feed up to six hungry guests, anchored by a slow-roasted whole lamb shoulder accompanied by fresh pita, seasonal vegetables, mezze and sauces. Guests can also pair their meal with a bottle of 2012 Ouled Thaleb Ait Souala Red from Morocco for $49. The lamb costs $250, which is really quite a bargain considering all the food and the fact that you’ll be splitting the cost several ways. It requires a reservation at least 24 hours in advance, which can be made here

Salon Event Series at Found Kitchen & Social House

In Evanston, Found Kitchen & Social House is in the midst of an ongoing, artsy event series taking place in the restaurant’s salon. Designed to encourage socialization, conversation, collaboration and creativity, each event is wholly unique and engaging, going well beyond the typical restaurant dinner events. Next up is a cheese degustation on March 1, featuring eight courses of cheese-themed dishes paired with wine, inspired by Parisian restaurant Androuet. It’s in partnership with Chicago’s Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread and Wine, starting at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and proceeding to dinner at 7:00 p.m. The cost is $65 per person.

Then next week is burlesque night on March 8, wherein Eva La Feva hosts an hour-long show with three different masters of the art of the tease, including Ray Ray Sunshine and Hot Tawdry. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are $20. Seating is guaranteed with a dinner reservation.
