Blu 57 Beefs Up Andersonville

Andersonville just got a new steak and seafood spot all its own, with the opening of a bold new neighborhood entry, Blu 57

Located right in the crux of Andersonville’s thriving Clark Street corridor, the Asian-inspired eatery is the handiwork of owner Jai Sephora and chef de cuisine Joe Sukjam, whose impressive resume boasts stints at legendary Arun’s and elite hotels in Thailand. Together, they’ve curated a menu focused on small plates of seafood and steak, offering a more shareable, lighter approach to the steakhouse format.

Drawing on his international cooking experiences, Sukjam outfits Blu 57’s menus with a myriad of eclectic, globally inspired dishes. Think black truffle-flecked tuna tartare, torched calamari, walleye roasted in miso cream, squid ink pasta with tiger prawns, roasted lamb chops with shin gochu chili and bison short rib with mirin glaze. As for the steaks, the stars of the show are a 48-day dry-aged rib-eye, a strip steak and an Angus filet mignon, each ideally accompanied by sides like garlic mashed potatoes, red curry elotes, maple bacon roasted Brussels sprouts, lemon-parmesan asparagus and roasted carrots.

On the dessert menu, expect sweets far from your typical steakhouse confections. This includes mango mousse with coconut rice, lychee sorbet and Thai iced coffee tiramisu.

Sukjam also offers a six-course chef’s tasting menu for $85 per person, a unique addition to the Andersonville community.

As for the space itself, Blu 57 is cozy, inviting and intimate with its 40-seat dining room enhanced with a rounded six-top banquette, bar stools and a custom wooden art installation.

Blu 57 is now open Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 11 p.m.
