The Best Steakhouse Sandwiches in Philadelphia

If ever there was a city that appreciates a good steak, it’s Philadelphia. The land of the cheesesteak is home to some exemplary steakhouses, each filled with dishes that go well beyond the humble sandwich that the city is known for. In fact, some of the best and meatiest sandwiches in town can be found in Philly’s steakhouses. Here are some of the best:

Barclay Prime

Barclay Prime: The ultimate sandwich in Philadelphia is the lone sandwich on the menu at this ritzy and classic steakhouse in Rittenhouse Square. The Barclay Prime Cheesesteak is an opulent nod to the city’s iconic culinary creation, albeit here it gets a serious upgrade, with Wagyu rib-eye, foie gras, truffled cheese whiz and a fresh baked sesame roll. It’s served with a 1/2 bottle of Champagne. Clocking in at $120, it’s also likely the priciest sandwich anywhere.

Top Cut: Located within its sister restaurant Melt, Top Cut is just full of surprises. This is especially true of its sandwich-centric bar menu, home to items like lobster and crab rolls, steakburgers and even a gourmet riff on the classic cheesesteak. Here, the sandwich is made with Prime NY strip steak, sliced and heaped with sharp provolone cheese, grilled onions and Tabasco mayo in a French baguette.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse: Swing by for lunch to marvel at the sandwiches being served at this renowned steak Mecca. This includes a lobster-shrimp club stacked high with chilled Maine lobster, Gulf shrimp, diced tomato, hickory-smoked bacon, micro greens and lemon tarragon aioli on toasted focaccia. And a steak sandwich outfitted with broiled and sliced filet mignon, griddled onions, sun-dried tomatoes and horseradish herb spread.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse: This Boston-based steakhouse adapted nicely to Philadelphia, filling its menu with the likes of Philly cheesesteak spring rolls. There’s also an array of other fresh, comforting sandwiches, like a turkey BLT, soy-ginger salmon burgers and a fried fish Reuben with Swiss cheese, summer slaw and Thousand Island on brioche.

Ocean Prime: Similarly, this Ohio-based chain of steak and seafood restaurants features cheesesteak wontons with caramelized onions and sriracha ketchup on its menu for its Philadelphia outpost. They’re on the Ocean Prime lounge menu, which keeps things casual with other bites like prime beef sliders and lamb lollipops.
