Weekend Planner: Lottie's Turns 82, Surly Darkness Eve, South American Wine Class and Stagg Whiskey Party

Lottie’s Pub Turns 82

Considering restaurants and bars typically age in dog years, it’s quite a feat for a neighborhood establishment to turn 82. For nearly a century, Lottie’s Pub has been a mainstay in Bucktown, and the beloved standby is celebrating its 82nd birthday on May 21 with some specials. From noon until 4:00 p.m., guests can enjoy $0.82 burgers along with all day drafts for $0.82, $8.20 pizzas, $5 Absolut cocktails, $5 Jameson, and $5 Jameson Black & Stormy cocktails. Here’s to another 82 years!

Surly Darkness Eve

In beer news, Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap is partnering with Surly Brewing for a special “Darkness Eve” that runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. May 20. During this time, the bar will feature four different versions of Surly beer, including a three-year vertical of Surly Darkness. The event is in conjunction with Chicago Craft Beer Week, which runs from May 19 through May 29. For $40, beer junkies can gain access to a VIP party with all-you-can-eat Surly-inspired food, along with a tasting flight of the beer. “Top secret” beers from Surly are also promised.

Explore South American Wines at ENO Wine Room

New World wine is the order of the day at ENO Wine Room’s latest ENOversity session. Specifically, South American wines. Varieties from Argentina and Chile step into the spotlight on May 22, when attendees will get to learn about and sip their way through the region’s most famed wines via a tasting menu. Cheese and charcuterie will also be served. The classes take place both at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., so there are a couple options to attend. The cost is $55 per person.

Stagg Party at The Violet Hour

In line with the first ever Chicago Cocktail Summit, The Violet Hour will host an open-to-the-public Stagg Party May 22 from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. The evening will highlight a special cocktail menu showcasing George T. Stagg whiskey, with cocktails like Staggaracs (Demerara, absinthe, Peychaud’s bitters) and Staggerys (amaretto, ginger, lemon, egg white). In addition to the cocktails, the bar will also offer tasting flights of George T. Stagg vintages, and charcuterie and cheese from Publican Quality Meats will be available for snacking. The Stagg Party is first come, first served and guests are encouraged to arrive early, since the vintages likely won’t last too long.
