Weekend Planner: Firkin Fest, Sink|Swim's Anniversary, Girl Scout Cookie Cocktails, and Breakfast Stout With a Side of WhirlyBall

Firkin Fest

Craft beer-lovers, take heed. Firkin Fest is back at Headquarters this year, taking place April 3 at the arcade bar’s River North location. Showcasing some of the most coveted beers on the market, connoisseurs will be able to sample their way through upwards of 40 unique brews. Additionally, a few breweries will even vie for the “finest firkin” in a battle for top ale. Rare brews to be served include Alarmist Phobophobia Patersbier, 3 Sheep rum barrel-aged Ewephoria stout, and Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA. For more info or to acquire tickets, visit Headquarters’ website.

Sink|Swim’s First Anniversary

They grow up so fast! Logan Square’s nautically minded gem, Sink|Swim, turns one this weekend, and to celebrate its first anniversary, the restaurant is hosting an all-day celebration on April 3. Expect specials like $1 oysters, $6 rosé, and $6 sparkling cocktails, along with some dinnertime items. These will be throwback specials from past Surf|Turf events the restaurant hosted with guest chefs.

Drink Girl Scout Cookie Cocktails at BIG Bar

’Tis the season for Girl Scout cookies! And the only way these confections could get any better is by putting them in boozy beverage form. Be sure and swing by BIG Bar to sip your way through limited time Girl Scout cookie-inspired cocktails. Available through the end of April, the drinks include a Samoa-inspired cocktail made with Malibu, butter shots, RumChata, Godiva Dark Chocolate, and amaretto. There’s also a Thin Mint-inspired version with green creme de menthe, creme de cocoa, peppermint schnapps, and ice cream.

WhirlyBall Hosts Kentucky Breakfast Stout Release Party

Craft beer and team sports go together like… breakfast stout and WhirlyBall. To be specific. Bucktown’s famed WhirlyBall is hosting a special Kentucky Breakfast Stout release party on April 1, which will include rare pours of the 2016 release, 2015 release, and 2014 release of this esteemed brew. To eat, the kitchen will be whipping up special plates of chicken and waffles with Breakfast Stout-infused syrup. As for the actual WhirlyBall courts, attendees have the opportunity to compete against teams of Founders Brewing Co. members in a complimentary matchup for the chance to win prizes. There is no fee to attend, and it runs from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
