After you've sufficiently boozed and shred on Friday, relax with a leisurely prix fixe Saturday supper at Birchwood Kitchen. Taking place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., the spring-inspired dinner features choice of starter, with options like sweet pea soup and goat cheese galette, followed by entree options like mussels and clams, egg noodle lasagna, and spring lamb shepherd's pie. For dessert, there's strawberry short cake and chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches. The price to attend is $40 per person and guests are invited to BYO to pair with their meal. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the restaurant.

In the midst of Mother's Day and Cinco de Mayo planning, let's not forget that Holland has holidays of their own they'd like us to celebrate. King's Day has been a week-long celebration, culminating on April 24 at LUXBAR. In honor of one of Holland's premier holidays, the Gold Coast dining and drinking destination is featuring a handful of rarely imported La Trappe brews, including La Trappe White, La Trappe Quad, and La Trappe PUUR. To match, chef Michael Shrader is cooking up Dutch-style P.E.I. mussels with frites.

Catalina Wine Mixer Part 2

In other beer news this weekend, Local Option is hosting part two of its Catalina Wine Mixer on April 24, the second tier in the four-part series, which is actually a misnomer in that it's beer-focused and not wine. At 3:00 p.m., the Lincoln Par bar will tap into a slew of unique draft beers from the likes of Maine Beer Company, De Dolle, Three Floyds, Pipeworks, and more. Beers to be served include Boulevard Saison Brett, De Dolle Arabier, Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break, Hoppin' Frog Gangster Frog, Lagunitas Waldo, Local Option Bierwerker Blood ov the Kings, Local Option Sweet Leif, Maine Lunch, Three Floyds Backmasking, Pipeworks Square Grouper, and lots more. Another key factor of the wine mixer series is the guitar component. This second leg is a qualifier stage, which invites musical participants to play guitar for two minutes and qualify for the Grand Finale taking place in October. The "Shred Contest" kicks off at 10:00 p.m. To enter the contest, email 666@localoptionbier.com. The winner for the night will also take home a $500 guitar.
