Weekday Planner: Wine Tasting and Wing Pairings, Fried Chicken Fried Rice, Ransom Spirits at Billy Sunday

Wine News at Unite Urban Grill and Goddess & Grocer

Wine and wings are a surefire way to make the work week sail by smoothly. Unite Urban Grill slings its famed glazed chicken wings with select bottles of wine for half price on Tuesdays, making for a tasty mid-week pick-me-up.

In other wine news, Goddess & Grocer in Bucktown is starting a new monthly wine tasting on the second Wednesday of every month. Each month features a different guest wine distributor and a different charity organization. First up is Wednesday, April 8, wherein the Bucktown cafe will feature wine samples from Stoller Vineyards and collect donations during the event for PAWS Animal Shelter.

Fried Chicken Fried Rice

Honey Butter Fried Chicken has truly outdone itself with their latest promotion. For a few consecutive weeks, the Avondale fried chicken haunt is slinging fried chicken fried rice on Tuesdays, the day the restaurant is usually closed. Specialized pints of fried chicken fried rice are served with one housemade egg roll and one handmade fortune cookie. Since the restaurant is not open for regular dinner service, orders can be picked up from the back door that connects to the bar. Available dates for fried chicken fried rice are April 7, April 14, and April 21. Hours are 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., or until they run out of food, so get there early.

"Holding the Reverend Ransom" at Billy Sunday

Ransom Spirits step into the spotlight at Billy Sunday for a special tasting event on April 7. From 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., the Logan Square bar partners with Cream Wine Company to host the Oregon spirits line, featuring a lineup of cocktails from the Ransom line using Whippersnapper Whiskey, Old Tom Gin, Ransom Vermouth, and Henry DuYore's Bourbon. Ransom Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir will also be on hand. The cost to attend is $35 per person and reservations can be made by calling the bar or emailing Jon Byron at jon@billy-sunday.com.
