Weekend Planner: Sunday Supper, Live Music Nights, Ramen Battle, and National Margarita Day

Sunday Supper at A10

Sunday supper is the new Sunday brunch. The latest spot to jump on the bandwagon is A10, which is now offering a new weekly supper special after 4:00 p.m., which includes a seasonal salad and meatball 'n' pasta combo served family-style. All this plus a draft cocktail or beer for $20/person. The menu rotates weekly, with dishes like chicken and Tuscan kale meatball with basil pesto and housemade spaghetti.

Live Music Nights at SIP

SIP (Southport & Irving) has instated a new series of live music events every Friday and Saturday evening. Dubbed Speakeasy Fridays and A Moveable Feast Saturdays, both nights feature cocktail specials and live jazz. Fridays offerings derive inspiration from Prohibition-era cocktails, specifically "The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book 1935," which run from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. along with jazzy tunes. Drinks on hand include Clover Club, Chicago Fizz, and Blood and Sand. The music schedule for Fridays includes Arlene Bardelle on February 20, Elaine Dame on February 27, Petra Van Nuis on March 6, and Keri Johnsrud on March 13.

On Saturday evenings, inspiration shifts to Hemingway and his travels. Expect Parisian, Latin, and Brazilian music and an eclectic array of cocktail specials from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Drink specials include Zelda's Punch with Genever, orange Curacao, carrot juice, lemon juice, cranberry, and Douglas Fir shrubs; Old Fashioneds; Gin & Tonics; and Death in the Gulf Stream with Piket Genever, lime juice, sugar, and angostura bitters. Imminent music schedule includes Paulinho Garcia on February 21, Mike Allemana and Neusa Sauer on February 28, and Christy Bennett on March 7.

Ramen Battle X at Yusho

It's time once again for another go-round of Yusho's recurring guest chef ramen battles. The next smack down takes place Sunday, February 22, featuring ramens by Sarah Grueneberg and Chris Pandel. Each chef will create their own ramen, to be served with a draft cocktail and soft-serve ice cream for dessert at $35 per person. Whichever chef earns the most votes wins the ramen glory. A portion of the proceeds from the evening benefit Pilot Light, which works to educate kids on making better food choices by bringing nutrition into the classroom.

National Margarita Day

Now here's a holiday worth celebrating. February 22 happens to be National Margarita Day, an apt time to visit Takito Kitchen and Bar Takito for some of the best margs in the city. In light of the holiday, margaritas at both locations will be $5, regularly priced at $10 or $11. Options include classic, cucumber, and Peruvian margaritas at Bar Takito and classic, cucumber, or caliente margaritas at Takito Kitchen. Takito Kitchen will also offer their BIG Margarita for $10, down from the normal $18.
