Weekend Planner: French Cooking Class, Sunday Supper, $3 Cocktails

French Cooking Class

Ever wanted to play Julia Child? Well now you can. Sorta. Paris Club Bistro & Bar is hosting a French cooking class on Saturday, January 17, featuring demonstrations on classic dishes by chef Christian Eckmann. The tutorial du jour will be coq au vin with pommes puree, all accompanied by a glass of French wine of course. The cost for the class, which runs from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., costs $60 per person. Reservations can be made by calling.

Sunday Supper at Le Colonial

Sunday supper is back for another round this weekend at Le Colonial, wherein a different Chicago food writer curates a special family-style menu. On January 18, Sarah Freeman of Zagat will play host, featuring a menu she hand-selected herself. Dishes include wok-seared monkfish, seared salad rolls, lotus root and tofu salad, sautéed diced chicken with eggplant, fried rice, and macaroons. Cocktails and wine pairings are also included. The cost is $50 per person and reservations can be made by calling.

Bread & Wine Turns Three

Bread & Wine is turning three, and to celebrate, the Irving Park eatery is offering $3 cocktails from January 16 through January 23. Aptly dubbed "Third Thyme's A Charm," the drink is the handiwork of Aric Goldfreed, featuring Cocchi Americano, ginger liqueur, housemade bitters, thyme, fresno chile, and soda.
