Weekday Planner: Women in Wine Tasting, Analogue Turns One, Stone Crabs, and 12 Beers of Christmas

Chicago Cut
(Get stoned at Chicago Cut)

Eat Stone Crabs at Chicago Cut Steakhouse

The steaks at Chicago Cut are great, but come stone crab season, the shellfish is second-to-none. And guess what? They're in. Owners David Flom and Matt Moore have flown in jumbo stone crab, serving it de-shelled with key lime mustard sauce for a very limited time. They suggest pairing it with a crisp glass of Billecart Simone Vintage Brut, especially since Chicago Cut is the only place in town pouring that liquid gold by the glass.

Women in Wine Tasting

Let's raise a glass to the ladies on December 11, as Spiaggia hosts its Women in Wine tasting exploring Italian wines made by the country's most prominent women. Taking place from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., the event is hosted by Spiaggia's sommelier/beverage director Rachael Lowe, along with wine expert Cathy Mantuano. Five different wines will be on hand to sample, including 2007 Ferrari "Perle" Trento DOC, 2013 Occhipinti "SP68 Bianco" Terre Siciliane IGT, 2006 Falesco "Montiano" Lazio IGP, 2011 Foradori Teroldego Vigneti dell Dolomiti IGT, and 2009 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. Each wine will be adjoined by a specific pairing snack, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, bay scallop crudo, and venison tartare. Martina Zuccarello from Select Italy travel company, will also be in attendance to help guide guests through the history and characteristics of each wine. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased here

Analogue's First Birthday

Analogue is turning one, and like any good one-year old, the Logan Square bar is celebrating with chicken sandwiches and Budweiser. On December 11, they're blowing out the figurative candles with $5 chicken sandwich specials by chef Alfredo Nogueira and $2 Budweiser drafts, along with live music sets by Bare Mutants and Clearance. Bartender Lisa Nguyen plays DJ before and after. While you're there, might as well sample your way through Analogue's new cocktail menu, which includes a Hot Doug's tribute drink called Sohnic Reducer (Old Forester, Nux Alpina walnut liquor, Cherry Demerara angostura bitters). Other classic-style beverages include Lost Highway (smoked porter, rum, Cynar, Demerara, angostura bitters, cayenne), Slow Fade (mezcal, Campari, Cocchi Americano, orange-cardamom syrup, angostura bitters), and Down by Law (tequila, Pimm's, lemon, almond grenadine, angostura).

12 Beers of Christmas at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap

Rather than recite turtle doves and swimming swans, count down to Christmas at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap. The River North bar is hosting a "12 Beers of Christmas" event on December 9 at 5:30 p.m., featuring a dozen festive beers, a Santa photo booth, and cookie decorating. Beers include Revolution "Fistmas," Great Lakes "Christmas Ale," Two Brothers "Peppermint Bark Porter," North Coast "Wintertime Ale," Victory "Winter Cheers," Avery "Old Jubilation," and more. All ages are welcome for the festivities, though obviously only those over 21 can partake in the booze.
