Dine Out for Breast Cancer Awareness

October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, wherein organizations such as the Lynn Sage Foundation’s “In Good Taste” campaign, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Bright Pink step into the spotlight to help raise funds to combat the disease. Restaurants in Chicago are pulling out all the stops for the occasion, featuring a bevy of dining and drinking specials all month long.

MAK
(Eat chicken breast for a good cause at MAK)

Pump Room: During the month of October, Pump Room is offering a special prix fixe lunch and dinner menu to benefit Bright Pink. Expect dishes such as calamari, walleye, and apple cobbler on the three-course menus. But that's not all! The adjacent Library Bar will be featuring a special Belvedere Raspberry Gimlet all month long. Drink and dine altruistically.

Ceres' Table: There's a special cocktail happening at Ceres' Table this month, and surprise surprise it's pink! The Suzie's Coupe is made with prickly pear juice, London Dry gin, lime, and an edible flower garnish. A portion of proceeds from every cocktail goes to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

Davanti Enoteca: It's not too often eating dessert goes to a good cause. Usually it just makes us feel lethargic. But as is the case with dessert at Davanti Enoteca, dessert is something you can feel pretty good about during October. All three Chicagoland locations are donating 5% of proceeds from dessert sales to the Lynn Sage Foundation. And with desserts this good, it's easy to be charitable. Options include the torta bacio with dark and white chocolate mousse and hazelnut crunch; the brown butter blondie with maple gelato, caramel sauce and Marcona almonds; the apple bread pudding with apple butter, brandy butter sauce, candied walnuts, and dried apple flowers; chocolate fig vasi with fig compote and dark chocolate cremeaux; and cookies and milk with pumpkin-filled graham cookies, candied pecans, and cinnamon-orange milk.

Glazed & Infused: Eat chocolate, do good. Such is the case with the special Chocolate4 Lynn Sage doughnut on deck for the month of October at Glazed & Infused. Pastry chef Nick Stewart has whipped up and fried up a special quadruple chocolate cake doughnut (!) with chocolate ganache glaze and pink and dark chocolate curls, with 5% of proceeds going to Lynn Sage.

MAK: An apropos way to pay tribute to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is with chicken breast. Head to MAK to order any of their chicken breast dishes and see a portion of your proceeds going swiftly to Bright Pink. Options include the MAK chicken bowl, General MAK chicken bowl, or MAK wrap with chicken breast.

Travelle: During October, Travelle transforms its Wabash Express lunch menu in order to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Now, when diners partake in the three-course prix fixe lunch menu, 10% of their proceeds go to the organization. The $29 menu includes items like Moroccan sweet potato soup, grilled chicken with asparagus and morels, heirloom squash-crusted cod, and dark chocolate terrine.

South Branch: Slurping martinis has never felt so charitable! Throughout October, order the Raspberry Martini at South Branch and feel better about yourself. Made with Stoli Blueberry, Stoli Raspberry, Chambord, cranberry and pineapple juice, and raspberry puree, $1 from every drink goes directly to the Lynn Sage Foundation.

Ombra: When one cocktail just doesn't cut it, Ombra has two heartwarming libations to choose from. One skews classic, while another is more modern and creative this month. Both send proceeds to Breast Cancer Awareness orgs. One is a classic Cosmo made with Real Russian vodka, Triple Sec, lemon juice, lime juice, and fresh cranberry, while another is called La Sena Rosa and features spiced vodka infused with fennel, Calabrian chilies, cardamom seeds, and nutmeg, along with Ruby Red grapefruit sour, Cherry Heering, angostura bitters, Bittercube Jamaican bitters, and fresh grated cinnamon.
