Bastille Day Dining Guide

Fresh off America's most patriotic holiday, it's time to celebrate another national fete, albeit this one is a little more Euro. Bastille Day is July 14, a day honoring the beginning of the French Revolution with the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. And there's no better way to commemorate this than by feasting on frites, Brie, and all things French.

Bistrot Zinc: Along with a very special guest, Marie Antoinette, Bistrot Zinc will celebrate Bastille Day with a special prix fixe menu on July 14. Available in addition to the regular menu, the degustation is on hand for dinner and costs $32.95 per person. The menu begins with appetizer options such as duck liver pate and baby beets with Banyuls vinaigrette and shaved fennel. Entrees include pork Milanese, vegetable chickpea tagine, and grilled salmon with gingered red lentils. For dessert, there's stone fruit parfait, chocolate mousse, and almond butter cake. Oh and Marie will be doling out cake to guests.

LM Restaurant Group: One of Chicago's preeminent French restaurant groups definitely merits a visit on Bastille Day. For the holiday, Brasserie by LM will be offering Dubonnet cocktail specials, while Troquet River North will have French 75 cocktails, croque monsieurs (or vegetarian croques), and croque madames.

Bistronomic: This Bastille Day, get thee to the Gold Coast's chic Bistronomic to partake in a couple apropos specials, available July 12 through July 14. As an homage to the year of the Bastille storming, Bistronomic will be offering classic steak frites for $17.89, plus bottles of French wine for $17.89.

RM Champagne Salon: Nothing like a ritzy Parisian parlor to celebrate Bastille Day in style. RM Champagne Salon will be featuring $1 oysters and $8 bubbly on July 14 to help toast "La Fête Nationale."

Floriole Cafe & Bakery: The latest Sunday supper at Floriole Cafe & Bakery comes with a French accent on July 13. Considering it's the eve of Bastille Day, the French-inspired cafe and bakery will be cooking up a family-style assortment of country pate, salad Lyonnaise, roasted chicken with pommes Anna, and blueberry olive oil cake with lemon granita. Suppers are served from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
