Get Hungry for Starving Artist 2014

Despite the ominous name, Starving Artist promises to be a feast for the eyes and the mouth. The 2014 edition of the annual art and food event takes place this weekend, June 21, at the Chicago Artists Coalition loft space in the West Loop, featuring a lineup of chefs, mixologists, and artists working in tandem to entertain and entice. Entering its 40th anniversary, the Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC) serves to establish sustainable resources and opportunities for local artists in Chicago.

The multifaceted event takes place from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at 217 N. Carpenter Street, featuring a miscellany of artists across various mediums, from paint to food. Co-chaired by Olga Markoff and Lesley Prizant Goodman, Starving Artist will highlight works from local artists Diana Gabriel, Luftwerk, Alexandra Noe, and Edyta Stepien. The cool thing is that each artist will work with a designated chef and collaborate as a "team" to curate art-and-food areas throughout the space. Chefs include Matthias Merges of Yusho, Billy Sunday, and A10; Chris Pandel of The Bristol and Balena; and Jared Van Camp of Element Collective.

There will also be a lineup of mixologists in attendance to augment the art and food with plenty of booze. Get thirsty for drinks crafted by Alexander Bachamn (Billy Sunday and co.), Jason Brown (Kinmont), Jason Ackerman (The Bristol), and Revae Schneider (Femme Du Coupe). Additionally, Starving Artist will feature music by DJ Victor Carreon and a "Sweets Shop" containing confections from the likes of Das Caramels, Tate's Cookies, and Vosges Haut-Chocolat, plus Irish coffee from Intelligentsia.

All proceeds from Starving Artist benefit the CAC, notably the Maker Grant, an annual award that lends support for two local artists. Tickets can be purchased here
