Weekend Planner: Dry-aged Meat at Eataly, Craft Beers at South Water Kitchen, Formento's Preview

Dry Age Meat Day at Eataly

Purchasing dry-aged meats can be an intimidating feat, mostly because you don't want to go broke and you have rent to pay. But Eataly takes the fear away from the equation with its inaugural Dry Age Meat Day on Friday, May 16. Praise beef! Just in time for grilling and meat-eating season, Eataly is slashing prices way back on its stellar meat cuts, selling them essentially at cost for the day. That means you'll want to go hogwild on your meat purchases to stock up for all your Memorial Day bingeing and cooking. On this day, the prime dry-aged boneless rib-eyes go for $13.80 per pound, down from the typical $26.80 per pound, and the prime dry-aged sirloin is just $7.80 per pound, reduced from $14.80 per pound. Holy cow!

Beer Specials at South Water Kitchen

In honor of Chicago Craft Beer Week, South Water Kitchen's bartender and cicerone Dan Rook is serving up some beer specials May 15 and May 16. Working with local craft beer brewery Ale Syndicate, South Water Kitchen is using a Randall to infuse Municipal IPA with different fruits and provide them as specials. Additionally, the restaurant is offering Ale Syndicate's Van de Velde Belgo-American Ale and Du Sable Saison for the duration of Chicago Craft Beer Week.

Formento's Preview Supper Series

In anticipation of Formento's opening this fall, the forthcoming Italian venture from B. Hospitality Co. (The Bristol and Balena), the restaurant group is instating a series of Sunday supper previews at The Bristol beginning on May 18. Once a month, Formento's chef Tony Quartaro will offer four-course tasting menus to preview the restaurant. The inaugural supper this weekend includes an Italian seafood salad, vegetarian lasagna primavera, chicken vesuvio, and baked Alaska. The cost to attend is $55 per person, plus $25 for beverage pairings.
