Mother's Day 2014 Edition Lunch
Think outside the brunch box this Mother's Day and take mom to lunch at Pizza Rustica, a Venetian-inspired escape on the edge of Lakeview. Weather permitting, lunch will be served on the patio, with an array of specials such as salt cod fish spread, fresh pappardelle with scallops and mussels, egg frittata, and panna cotta. Moms will also be treated to a free cocktail. Come dinnertime, chef Stefano Roman will feature blackboard specials for moms and kin.

Moms love truffles. Rather than phone it in with a typical box of chocolates, take her to a hands-on truffle-making class at Katherine Anne Confections, the end all-be all of chocolate truffles in Chicago. Taking place May 10 at 11:00 a.m., the event is designed as a sort of high tea, with mimosas, scones, and tea sandwiches for snacking while learning about the ins and outs of truffle-making. Attendees will then get to create their own truffles from start to finish, then take them home to enjoy. The cost is $65 per person and tickets can be purchased here.
Herb Class and Spring Cooking Demo
In other demo news, Big Bowl is hosting an herb class/cooking demo on May 10 at its Gold Coast location. The complimentary class runs from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., featuring insight from executive chef Marc Bernard, who also happens to own Rustic Road Farm in Elburn, Illinois. The class will inform attendees on how to start potted herb farms and provide tips for cooking with herbs. III Forks Prime Steakhouse will offer a Mother’s Day feast in Lakeshore East on Sunday, May 11. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Chef Billy Caruso’s special three-course prix fixe menu will be featured, offering choice of salad, entree and dessert for $46.95.
