What to Eat This Week: Pastrami at Chop Shop, Bacon at Sola, The Best Steak Comes in All Shapes. Trivia at The Monarch, and Cupcake Class at Sweet Mandy B's

National Pastrami Day at Chop Shop

The holidays aren't over yet! How could you forget about National Pastrami Day on January 14? It's like Christmas all over again, but with meat and Russian dressing instead of presents and egg nog. To celebrate the joyous occasion, Chop Shop is slinging their new housemade pastrami sandwich for $7 during lunch, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. It's normally $10. Expect pastrami made with a coriander and black pepper rub, served with sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and Swiss cheese on marbeled rye.

Bacon, Bacon, and More Bacon at Sola

Nothing like a Hawaiian-inspired restaurant to distract from the woes of winter in Chicago. Especially when said restaurant peddles a bacon-centric tasting menu. That's right, bacon takes the spotlight for Sola's latest monthly tasting menu, a three-course prix fixe centered around the swine. The menu starts with lentil bacon soup, followed by bacon-wrapped cobia with black rice, cabbage, and barbecue vinaigrette. For dessert, an apple-bacon cinnamon egg roll with vanilla-miso ice cream, hoisin caramel, and bacon brittle. The menu costs $30, plus $15 for wine pairings.

Geek Out at The Monarch

Trivia makes everything better, including Mondays. The Monarch's new Monday trivia special, beginning weekly at 8:00 p.m., is a geek-tastic event promising fun for everyone, from gossip hounds to science wizards. Trivia is free to play, with prizes available for winners. To top it all off, the bar offers specials on beers such as Tiger Lager and appetizers are 25% off.
