Get Your Apple on at Sola Restaurant

October is apple time. Whether you're ambling through orchards double-fisting fruits or tucking into a warm slice of apple pie à la mode (or a whole pie if it's been that kind of week), there's no denying the pome fruit's omnipresence. And why would you? With so many varieties, textures, flavors, and versatile cooking options, there is so much to love about apples. At Sola Restaurant, apples earn their due respects as the focal point of the latest monthly prix fixe menu. Each month, the Hawaiian-inflected American restaurant offers a different themed prix fixe menu, concentrating on different ingredients throughout the seasons. Since the only thing more prominent in October than apples is pumpkin spice lattes, the former was the obvious choice.

The special apple menu is available throughout October for $30 per person, with optional wine pairings for $15. Sola shows that apples can be much more than sauce and pie, turning them into apple butter, gastrique, bread pudding, and more. The menu starts off with butternut squash soup with roasted apples, a double whammy of full-fledged fall flavor. This is followed by a second course of seared scallops with curry-apple butter, quinoa, baby bok choy, and cider gastrique. For dessert, it's apple bread pudding with cinnamon-anise mascarpone cheese ice cream, hoisin caramel sauce, and pecan brittle. How 'bout them apples?
