Eat Pink in October: Breast Cancer Awareness Specials

Next month, doughnuts, monkey bread, and banh mi sandwiches go from comfort foods to heros. These and many other menu items are part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month specials and promotions popping up around Chicago, helping to combat breast cancer by donating proceeds to cancer foundations. Binging has never felt so beneficial. Here's where to dine for a good cause in October.

On October 3, Allium goes pink for breast cancer research. A suggested donation of $35 grants guests access to the lavish soiree featuring Laurent-Perrier Rosé Champagne, Pink A'Peel cocktails, passed bites, fashion, and mini manicures, all for the benefit of The Lynn Sage Foundation. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

All month long, Kanela Breakfast Club gets charitable with monkey bread. With every purchase of Kanela's cinnamon-y and honey buttery monkey bread, the restaurants will donate $1 to Bright Pink. Sure makes carbo-loading at brunch seem a lot better.

And while you're at it, you might as well splurge on some doughnuts. Throughout October, Firecakes will feature special yeast-risen pink doughnuts topped with strawberry-vanilla icing and white chocolate pearls. The doughnut shop will donate 50% of profits from every pink doughnut purchased to The Lynn Sage Foundation.

If you order dessert at La Madia, you're a noble person. The purchase of any one of La Madia's desserts next month sends $1 to The Lynn Sage Foundation, and with items such as bittersweet chocolate tortino, chocolate polenta cake, and espresso semifreddo, it's not hard to do good.

Chicken banh mi sandwiches save the day at Old Town Social next month. A portion of proceeds from the Vietnamese-inspired sandwich benefits The Lynn Sage Foundation as well, and they'll be on deck the duration of October.

The October edition of ENO's ENOversity education class series hones in on a charitable cause. The monthly education classes are designed to offer a casual, fun tasting experience for wine novices and oenophiles alike, delving into specific wines and pairing them with cheeses and chocolates. On October 15, the evening's theme is "Because It's Ladies' Night," celebrating female wine-makers and wine marketers in Europe and the Americas. The event doubles as a charitable opportunity to make donations to breast cancer awareness foundations.

The entire One Off Hospitality group is poised to donate one dollar from sales of select items to The Lynn Sage Foundation throughout October. In case you needed any further incentive to dine at one of Paul Kahan's restaurants. At Blackbird, it's the On Point cocktail, avec features select rosé by the glass, The Publican's offering is veal breast hash for Sunday brunch, Publican Quality Meats features a veal breast sandwich, The Violet Hour highlights its Old Fashioned cocktail, and Big Star has a version of a Manhattan called The Blue Line Swinger.
