New Days, New Hours for Chicago Restaurants Browntrout and Blackbird

Browntrout is now open on Mondays, and although they're calling it "industry night," it's open to everyone. The restaurant has special hours for this special day, open 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., along with a special weekly menu announced every Monday afternoon on Facebook and Twitter. Since this is technically industry night, all food service and farm industry professionals get 30% off all food and drinks. Although the menu changes constantly, here are some examples of dishes you may be able to expect on Monday nights: summer poutine with corn, bacon, radish, and sawmill gravy; grilled local Makinaw trout with smoked trout risotto; goat belly roulade with fresh currants, goat jus, crispy broccoli, and mustard; and cantaloupe-lemongrass soup with brown butter ice cream, candied pecans, plums, purple shiso, and jalapeño. Get there.

It took them long enough (16 years), but Blackbird has finally started Sunday dinner service. This ain't your mother's Sunday supper either. Starting September 8, Blackbird-oholics will be able to get their Paul Kahan fix every night of the week, with chef de cuisine David Posey and pastry chef Dana Cree stepping up to the plate with a plethora of new dishes. For savory fare, look forward to corned beef tongue with charred sweet corn, brioche, black rice vinegar, and yeasted mustard; romaine soup with snail sausage and hazelnuts; and lump king crab with cauliflower, plums, white sesame, and brown butter. For desserts, Cree's turning out nectarine sherbet with buttermilk pudding, smoked nectarines, mesquite crumble, and bourbon; compressed salted watermelon with elderflower, arugula, and sorrel; and burnt vanilla Pavlova with black raspberry glace, banana pudding, and black licorice cream. Your Sunday just got a lot more fun.
