It's A Winner, That Sunday Dinner

Some things we love about Sunday: football, worship and the chance to sleep in late. We used to love brunch too, but these days it's just not fun anymore. Brunch should be stress free, yet the long waits, screaming babies, and impatient and sometimes rude crowds can ruin what should have been a pleasant outing.

That's why we're all about Sunday dinners. By evening, people are calm and back to being civilized. Plus, it's an opportunity to catch some of the best deals of the week. Settle in the front room at West Town's Branch 27, for example, and you'll get to watch sports action on several monitors while enjoying one of the most underrated deals in town. For $18, you'll get cassoulet and a glass of wine. There's also $5 Bloody Marys, Mimosas and ruby red Greyhounds.

Head to Andersonville to experience the new French flavor of Brasserie 54 by LM. Every Sunday the restaurant offers a prix-fixe menu for $25, which includes a choice of baby spinach salad or soup du jour, fish du jour or Hanger steak frites and teurgoule, a traditional French rice pudding. There are also $20 bottles of wine.

Café Selmarie, in Lincoln Square, continues its popular "wild card deals" on Sundays. Customers draw cards labeled with different discounts, including half price on beer, wine and entrees as well as free desserts.

Get ready for a family-style, progressive Asian feast at West Loop newcomer Embeya. The Sunday-only deal is $29 ($50 with wine pairings) and highlights some of the restaurant's signature and seasonal dishes such as short rib wraps and noodles with rock shrimp and peppers.

Art Smith's Table Fifty-Two in the Gold Coast serves its famed buttermilk fried chicken on Sunday and Monday only. For $24,  you get three hearty pieces and a heaping of garlic mashed potatoes. The braised collard greens with smoked turkey and three-cheese mac are also great additions to the meal.

Bucktown's Trencherman can get a little pricy,  so the Sunday offering is one you don't want to pass up. The special three-course, prix-fixe menu is $35 with an optional beverage pairing for $15. The dishes are seasonal and so are the cocktails.

It's still pretty hard to get into Vera on a regular night, so those with time to spare should head to this Warehouse District hot spot on Sundays. It's pretty laid back, plus it's the only night they feature the $32 lobster paella for two. You also might get lucky enough to snap up a couple of seats at the Otro Bar, which only seats five.

It's Sunday Noodle Night in Logan Square as Yusho features a different dish each week using seasonal ingredients. Alas, it'll be an early dinner because the deal is noon to 5pm only, with diners getting the noodles, cocktail (or wine or beer) and seasonal soft serve for $20.
